If we were to tell you Pink and Christina Aguilera once got into a fist fight, who would you guess threw the first punch?
Spoiler alert: you’re wrong.
The two pop stars had a very long, very public feud starting way back in 2001 when both were relatively new to the industry. According to Pink, who opened up about their touchy history on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, all the drama started on Moulin Rouge!
Pink and Aguilera were tapped to perform a cover with Lil’ Kim and Mya. The first meeting about the track didn’t start too hot: “[An executive on the movie] walked in. He didn't say hi to any of us and said, 'What's the high part? What's the most singing part? Christina's going to take that part.'"
“I stood up, and I said 'Hi. How are you? It's so nice of you to introduce yourself. I'm Pink, and she will not be taking that part,” she explained in an interview a year after the initial incident. “’I think that's what the f***ing meeting's about.'"
It’d soon get even more dramatic. Pink worked with producer/songwriter Linda Perry on her second album, and Aguilera poached her collaborator shortly afterward. Aguilera admitted to being ‘inspired’ by Pink’s work with Perry, but that doesn’t mean Pink was OK with it. “I don't think imitation is the highest form of flattery," she'd complained in another interview. "I think it's annoying."
The two superstars have kissed and made up since. They’re a little older, a little wiser, and have since worked together amicably on The Voice and a rumored upcoming track (see above). But before the matter could be officially put to bed, host Andy Cohen decided to ask if their feud ever got physical. And thank goodness he did.
"She swung on me in a club, which was hilarious," Pink said, laughing. "I was like, 'What's happening right now. What are you… What's happening?'"
You can understand her confusion. Most full-grown men would wisely shy away from fighting the super-fit rock star; Aguilera, on the other hand, is a teensy tiny pop star who’s probably never landed a punch in her life.
Honestly, Christina was lucky to get out of that scuffle alive.
